Formal education is valuable but does not create a skilled practitioner. I’ll list my key educational background first, and then the other key influences on the work I do—particularly healing work on my childhood experiences, 45 years of personal growth and development, and a profound spiritual awakening in 1982 (not religious).
Formal Education
1979 Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Child Development, and Family Living from Western Kentucky University. Graduated at the top of my class.
1989 Win-Win Practitioner Certification (a practical and spiritual based 2-year program in win-win mediation and conflict resolution at the now-closed Win-Win Institute in Phoenix)
1997 Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling (M.A.) from the University of Phoenix (Previously held title of National Board Certified Counselor)
Other Key Influences
Childhood pain and a spiritual awakening
I’m like so many of you. I spent many miserable and clueless years trying to make sense of love relationships.
My life has been about finding my way out of the mess and discovering the secrets that bring happiness and lasting love. I certainly don’t have all the answers, but my 28 years of assisting people have given me some secrets that few have access to.
As is commonplace for us humans, I had a very difficult time in childhood. The things I learned in childhood about loving myself, healthy communication, and healthy relating were mostly inadequate, often destructive.
I had a lot of unlearning to do. I realized in early adulthood that I would get nowhere in life if I didn’t address my defective childhood learning and pain. That unlearning and relearning is what my life is all about. As I’ve grown, healed, and learned, I’ve been in a position to pass along my wisdom to others.
Although I’m professionally trained, I became disenchanted with the mental health profession as early as undergraduate school in the late 70s. As well-intentioned and capable as some people in the profession are, I believe that, overall, the mental health profession is failing the general public. It can also be said that the general public is failing to adequately support the mental health system.
In the spring of 1982, I had a series of life-altering spiritual experiences that, among other things, inspired the development of my work. These experiences inspired a passion and a vision for a world that is free from unnecessary disconnection, isolation, and suffering. The experiences also provided me with some gifts of intuition, empathic sensitivity, and healing.
Since my spiritual awakening, I have been coaching individuals, couples, and families. I have also developed and led classes and workshops on the topics of: relationship strategies, healthy communication, emotional health, advanced anger and argument solutions, making good choices in relationships, and spirituality.
My mother, classes / workshops, authors
As early as 15 years old, I began a search for something to help me feel better, and to help me understand myself and other people. My Mother was a key influence because she was into spirituality (not religious beliefs) and personal growth. At age 18, my Mother and I participated in
Silva Mind Method. Spirituality and personal growth has been my life. Most every week of every year for 40+ years I have been involved in some form of education, workshop, or class.
The single most significant person to influence my life and work, and who ignited my spiritual awakening, is
Werner Erhard. I participated in his courses or classes most every week from 1982-2006. (His work was sold and became Landmark Education, and now
Landmark Worldwide)
Other key influencers on my growth and my work have been authors Dr. Harville Hendrix (Imago Therapy for couples and the influence of childhood), Dr. John Bradshaw (healing childhood), Barry Neil Kaufman (The Option Institute), Jordan and Margaret Paul (relationship communication), Dr. Ron Smothermon (practical spirituality, self-awareness, and relationships), Dr. Jess Lair, Dr. Peter Levine (understanding the survival brain and addressing trauma), any and all authors on
NDE’s and spiritual experiences), Marilyn Chase (growth and relationship courses), and Dr. Carl Rogers (one of the founders of the humanistic approach to psychology)

My Vision - Healthy You, Healthy Couples, Healthy Children, Healthy World
There are four main passions in my life and in my work that draw me forward.
- The first is a passion for people to find ways to connect with their spiritual self and to heal their psychic and emotional pain.
- Second passion: Healthy Couples. I have chosen to specialize in work with couples because it serves both the individual and the couple. For individuals, I have discovered that the path of becoming a healthy couple generates personal healing. It also puts individuals in touch with their spirit selves. For the couple, the pain and confusion that are so common in relationships are replaced with a deep, lasting love and friendship.
- The third passion is for children to be treated with kindness and respect. Like most of you, I know first-hand the impact of parents who aren’t healthy enough to adequately care for their children. My vision is a world of truly conscious and healthy couples. Healthy couples will automatically take good care of their children. Imagine the world we will have when all children are well taken care. Imagine the loving, joyful, empowered adults they will become. Imagine the good they will create in our world.
- Fourth passion: A new world. By learning this new model for love relationships, you will be forerunners of a new world of healthy people in healthy relationships. A world that up until now has been unknown. A world where everyone is treated with love, respect, and kindness. A world that no longer uses war as a method of resolving conflicts.
My Commitments to You
My intention and commitment to you is that you have a relationship that is not bogged down by unresolved conflict and emotional upsets, but that you have a partnership where you and your partner love being with one another, and your relationship inspires those you touch.
And further, my intention and commitment is that you are confident that the love in your relationship will last.
